The point of a morning routine is to get your day off starting positive in order to accomplish more and feel better.

1. No Screens For The First Half Hour

The time right after you wake up is for you, and going straight to your computer or other devices is no bueno. The first half hour sets the tone for the rest of the day so don’t start it off enslaved to technology.

2. Drink 3-4 cups (1 liter) of Water

Yes. That much. As soon as you wake up, drink as much water as your stomach can handle. Usually its about 3-4 cups (1 Liter). This will hydrate you for the day and will actually wake you up more than a cup of coffee. Drinking water also gets your bodily systems off to a great start and helps flush out toxins through your bowels. Try it out and you’ll see how much of a difference it will make to your morning routine.

3. Make Your Bed

Leaving behind an unmade bed is terrible for starting off your day. Even if you have to quickly throw the sheets and covers over the bed, it will make a big “mental” difference for the start of your day.

4. Let The Natural Light In

We refer to it at “letting the birds in”. Open up your curtains and blinds right when you wake up. While it may not be fun to wake up to, natural light does help you get started on the right foot.

5. Eat

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Don’t skip it. If you’re in a rush, at least drink some juice or grab some fruit on your way out. Your body needs fast absorbing sugars and carbs to get your systems off to a good start. Eating healthy in the morning also sets the tone for the rest of the day. Stay away from complex sugars and carbs like donuts, buttered toast etc. and go with more natural options like fruits, whole grain cereals, or oatmeal.

7. Assess Your 3 Most Important Tasks and Do Them

It’s very easy to get through your day without stopping and still not accomplish what you really need to get done. Before starting your day, figure out what your 3 most important tasks are and get those done first, then move on.

Some people think “multi-tasking” is an amazing ability to have, but it can actually work against you. Multi-tasking will get everything “almost” done, rather than done completely and out of your way.

9. A 15 Minute Walk or Jog

Lace up your shoes and go for a walk or jog around the neighborhood. Consider taking the dog(s) with you. You’ll love it and they’ll love it!
